Teaching in NY state?
I'm currently working on getting my Associate's degree in Business Administration from a community college in NY state. (I am graduating after this semester basically, maybe a few summer courses to finish up) Now I'm seriously thinking about switching my career path.
Can I teach at all with just an Associate's degree (student teach, internships, something of that sort) while working on my Bachelor's? Even though my Associate's will already be in Business?
IF I can work/teach while getting my Bachelor's, do I apply directly to a school and tell them I'm working on my degree, or go through the college that I'm attending... Do I have to wait until AFTER I have my Bachelor's to student teach? You DO need a Master's to teach on your own, correct?
Ahhh it's so confusing and I can't find ANY info on these specific things online.
Maybe a story on how you became a teacher? Any information that will help me get a feel for where to go from here.

Here’s the info you need, from the New York State Department of Education: http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/pathways.htm

You can’t work as a regular teacher before you have your Bachelor’s. While you are working on your degree, you’ll do student teaching (unpaid). Your college will set this up for you.
Hi Victoria. I do think you need your Bachelor’s degree first. As opposed to applying directly at the school, you’d be better off applying at the district office where the school is located.
Good luck!!
