What do you think of online courses?

I want to take some online course at Mt Hood Community College. I live over an hour away and work full time with a lot of last minute overtime so It will be really hard to make it to classes. Do you have to be on the computer at specific times or can you do the work when you have time.

When I was in HS I took a set of our online courses, and I actually found it to be easier than the average class. The instructor would email us our assignments at the beginning of each week and we were to have them completed by the end and emailed back to him or her. It was very basic and simple, and with the internet at your fingertips, you could easily answer any question you had about the assignment without the need of assistance.

The tests were online on the blackboard web page, and I’m not sure if they could tell if you were to cheat or not, but I know many kids were able to get away with it because our assignments were on the same computer and no one was there to monitor you. So really, its not as hard as you would imagine it to be.

i took couple online classes for the first time last semester and the way our school did it is you listen to lectures anytime you want, but you have to take exams by a certain date.

usually you can do the work when you have time, but there are still dealines and assignment due dates

occationally, some classes require a group chat, but this is rare

just make sure you have a LOT of self discipline!! no one’s going to be reminding you to do your work. and without a class to go to, its easy to forget about it!

also: sometimes you have to test at a specific location (like the school) at a specific time. usualyl there’s a midterm and a final (that you have to go to for testing)

I’m doing online classes now. No, you don’t have to be on at certain times, which makes it easy. However, if you’re doing your work in the middle of the night and get stuck on something it’s hard to find someone else online who can help… Hope this helps!

I was in the same situation. I really wanted to take classes but couldnt find the time. I spoke to a few online colleges. Depending on the classes you are going to find different schedules. For example this one class was completely based on your own individual writing and then you would submit your papers… at your own leisure. However, I have a few friends that actually had to sign on to participate in a class. I would give the school a call up and talk to them about the classes.
    Good luck!

Some courses are easily taught online. Its effectiveness depends on how skillfully the course is planned and facilitated, and how well the student is prepared and engaged.

Online courses are set up in different ways. If it’s a live facilitated session with everyone there (synchronous), then yes, you have to meet online at a certain time. If it’s a stand alone class without interaction, then no, you complete it at your own time and pace. If the online portion is a bulletin board, where you post messages and exchange documents on your own (asynchronous), then you do that when you can.

You should check the class syllabus to find out how your teacher set up your class.
