The basics to entering the Property & Casualty business in Michigan.?

I am a licensed real estate broker/owner that is considering getting the necessary license(s) to offer my customer base P & C insurance. I went to the State of Michigans Website and got lost. My main question is, does anyone know if the pre-licensing courses are allowed to be taken online only, or id there a required portion of classroom time? Anyone with kowledge plese reply.

  1. Tom Z says:

You will have to take 40 hours of pre-licensing education (PE). Three of those hours must be devoted to ethics.

PE coursework is approved in Michigan for classroom and correspondence. Either is acceptable. A correspondence course (i.e. online) requires that an examination be administered by a disinterested third party. A classroom type course does not require an examination.

Here is a link to the approved list of pre-licensing education course providers – http://www.michigan.gov/documents/cis/PE_Providers_188973_7.pdf
