Has Obama been forthright with unemployment numbers?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124451592762396883.html

"Saved or created" has become the signature phrase for Barack Obama as he describes what his stimulus is doing for American jobs. His latest invocation came yesterday, when the president declared that the stimulus had already saved or created at least 150,000 American jobs -- and announced he was ramping up some of the stimulus spending so he could "save or create" an additional 600,000 jobs this summer. These numbers come in the context of an earlier Obama promise that his recovery plan will "save or create three to four million jobs over the next two years."

Mr. Fratto sees a double standard at play. "We would never have used a formula like 'save or create,'" he tells me. "To begin with, the number is pure fiction -- the administration has no way to measure how many jobs are actually being 'saved.' And if we had tried to use something this flimsy, the press would never have let us get away with it."

Of course, the inability to measure Mr. Obama's jobs formula is part of its attraction. Never mind that no one -- not the Labor Department, not the Treasury, not the Bureau of Labor Statistics -- actually measures "jobs saved." As the New York Times delicately reports, Mr. Obama's jobs claims are "based on macroeconomic estimates, not an actual counting of jobs." Nice work if you can get away with it.

Is Obama a master manipulator? Or are people just outright retarded?

No, he is trying to spin the numbers the best he can but it is slowly catching up with him.
He has no proof to back up his numbers.
I just saved or created 200,000 jobs writing this response!

he is a demagogue and any rational person knows it!!!

The unemployment statistics are skewed. There are more unemployed now than in many decades and I fear it’s only the beginning.

    BOTH.

    People are just retarded. Sorry.

  6. Banshee says:

Yes, I’ve noticed that. He is quite the manipulator; people need to wake up and realize that he is spewing a heavy line of BS. The Obama administration’s numbers have been "off" from the beginning. He consistently touts the "saved OR created" rhetoric, knowing full well that there is no real way to verify "saved" jobs and hoping that the public is not sharp enough to catch on. Additionally, these 600,000 jobs that he claims that he is going to create are temporary, not long term, jobs. Welcome to Obama’s world of manipulation and unicorn-laced promises.

  7. Mr. Wolf says:

Probably not. Spinning those numbers and numbers like them are a age old political tradition and President Obama can not or will not change that. Besides when he was not spinning things to make them sound good he was attacked for using doom and gloom.

  8. CAVEY says:

MUCH MORE SO THAN BUSH WAS.
WHEN HE WAS PRESIDENT THEY DID NOT COUNT THE AMERICANS WHO’S UNEMPLOYMENT HAD ALREADY RUN OUT. ONLY THE ONES DRAWING UNEMPLOYMENT

  9. DAR says:

    IT is pure froth.

  10. Ruby says:

Obama’s speech writers and spin masters are the master manipulators.

Obama is just the puppet chosen to deliver the spin.

And people who continue to buy it after all that has transpired are just plain retarded.
