Why is college so expensive even if you take online courses?

Even to take an online course at home I got quoted from 13,000 -- 36,000 dollars.
These were courses like medical billing, coding, english, etc.

Most ‘real’ colleges are non-profit – they charge what it costs to educate you, or sometimes less (if they get state funding). Online schools are businesses – they’re trying to make money, so they charge a lot more than it costs them to educate you.
