I've been out of work on and off for about 2 and a half years. I have roughly ten years of experience in my field, with job gaps here or there. So, I kinda fudged the dates on my resume. One job I was at for about a year..I extended it to two years due to a job gap. It's not honest, I know, but how else can I get my foot in the door? I've done a lot of temporary work, so I've been employed through employment agencies-some of them for about two years. I list the company I was placed with on my resume, but I always alert the HR rep during the interview that the actual employer who paid me was the temp agency.

Anyhoo, I'm feeling hopeless because I'm wondering just how detailed the info on a background check is. Do they specifically list your dates of employment? I have no criminal record, but of course my credit is shot because I've been employed sporatically over the past two years. It's like a catch 22..if I reveal gaps on my resume, I probably won't even get called for an interview, and if I get called in for an interview, they want to conduct background checks. Mind you, I'm in the Office Administration field-and have the skills. I can easily pass a drug test if required; I'm just having a really tough time securing a position, and it's coming to the point where it's scary. I remember five years ago, the longest I'd ever been out of work was nine months..I used to be able to get jobs left and right in my field. It seems like today, because of the economy, employers are being more selective in their process with these background checks.

I've tried regrouping with agencies, but most of them claim they don't have anything, despite their advertisements online. I've gone back to school to complete a BA in Business and will be done with that early next year. I figure I may as well attend school in the evenings while looking for work in the day time; I've worked full time and have gone to school full time before. Is there anyone out there who can relate and maybe provide some advice? I'm getting worried because the longer I stay out of work, the less my resume will stand out. The background checks are NOT helping, but unfortunately, in order to fold clothes at the GAP requires one these days.

If this is in the wrong category don't worry about it:

going to be a freshman in college this semester. I'm only going part time 9 credit hours because I will be working. I'm just taking 3 classes this semester all being my basics. I want to get a bs in Business Management. I'm just taking all my basic classes at my tech school then going to a full time online college. Everybody I've told seems to have a problem with that, like I'm lazy or something or that's not real college...Y. The most important thing is I'm going to college, whats the big deal with online courses.

So this last semester (I thought) at college was terrible and I ended up withdrawing from 4 classes and taking them in the fall. I continued my 2 other online courses from home. So I withdrew because the material was too difficult and I felt overloaded, it wasn't because of stress/anxiety. Although I do have stress/anxiety/OCD/depression at times, but I'm really usually pretty jovial.

So, anyway, I left the campus on March 19th after filing the withdrawal forms. I was full-time at school and that was my whole social life. It's been 9 weeks and I have been chilling out at home, finishing the other online courses. Sleeping days, staying up nights. Leaving the house to eat with the folks, went on a couple dates. Basically, I have been cooped up in the house on my laptop for like 12 hours and then watching Orioles games and my fav shows. I've let my beard grow out (until today), I've been just doing whatever I feel like around the house, though I have had nowhere to really be for these past 9 weeks.

I have recently started feeling all weird and sad and OCD-type thoughts and I just, literally, looked at my calendar and noticed that it's been 9 weeks since I left the University Registrar's office and got all cooped up in my house (except for my online finals I took last week at the school). I feel the same and act the same with professors when I saw them last week...it was all gravy, but I feel very different just not doing anything. It's total isolation, but I didn't see any harm until realizing that it's been 9 weeks since I've been involved in productive stuff.

So, am I feeling weird due to the fact that I've been home for 9 weeks not doing jack? Like, should I just literally get out and start doing stuff to feel normal again. The thing is - I was totally fine before I withdrew and decided to just do the 2 classes online at home. But now I feel as if I want to leave the house really bad and go to a bar, chat up some chicks, but just feel like sorta sullen.

What kind of effects can just hanging out all day in front of the PC and TV have on someone? What should I do - just drop everything and find something to do this summer? I'm 4 classes shy of a Bachelor's but I can't sit home like this and I need to spend my time somewhere.....

Any thoughts about what to do IMMEDIATELY (lol) and then for the summer? I'm like turning into some kind of nutjob and I didn't know that could happen just by keepin to yourself at home....?

Masters in Business

What is a decent school in NYC that I could take both on campus and online courses to earn a M.B.A. I couldn't afford Columbia or a "TOP" school like that. But I don't want a deadbeat school either. Something in the middle with a decent reputation, that would challenge me a little.

Where do you go? Do you like it?

I am a NY resident working full time (degree related) B.S. in Industrial Design
